Call for papers
Submissions are invited for a special issue of the Estonian Journal of Education (Eesti Haridusteaduste Ajakiri), Vol. 10, No. 2, which is scheduled to be published November 2022. The journal welcomes high quality research papers in the field of multilingual and multicultural education. The editors of the special issue are Marika Padrik (Associate Professor of Speech Therapy) and Karmen Trasberg (Lecturer in Educational Management) from the University of Tartu, and Krista Kerge (Professor Emerita, applied linguist) from Tallinn University.
The authors are expected to submit high level scientific articles on learning and teaching within culturally and linguistically diverse environment. More specifically, we invite articles within, but not limited to, the following topics:
- Development of multilingual/bilingual children, including the linguistic development at school and kindergarten, its evaluation and support;
- Innovative and exemplary teaching practices: preservation of the Estonian language in the era of globalisation;
- Experiences related to the use of the Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) methodology;
- The concept and implementation of the model of Integrated Estonian School;
- Bilingual pupils with special needs: noticing, evaluation, teaching;
- Culturally sensitive and multi-perspective teaching;
- Children with a migrant background and of returnees within the Estonian education system
- Multicultural value development at the kindergarten and school
- Preparing teachers for teaching pupils with different cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
The Estonian Journal of Education is an international, peer-reviewed journal. The journal uses Open Journal Systems (OJS) and is published, in collaboration with the University of Tartu and Tallinn University, by the University of Tartu Press. The journal is indexed in the database EBSCO Academic Search Complete and Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).
The deadlines for the publication are as follows:
- Author(s) send the topic of the article(s), accompanied by an abstract in Estonian to Marika Padrik (marika.padrik@ut.ee). The abstract of no more than 200 words should summarise the theory of the research, the objective(s), the methodology as well as the (expected) outcomes of the study – 27 September 2021.
- The editors send confirmation of acceptance of the manuscripts to the corresponding authors – 11 October 2021.
- Authors submit appropriately formatted manuscripts, together with a summary in English – 17 January 2022.
- Editors inform authors on review outcomes – 7 March 2022.
- Authors revised manuscripts, based on reviewers’ guidelines – 4 April 2022.
- Editors inform authors of revised manuscript acceptance, or whether a second revision is required based on additional guidelines – 2 May 2022.
- Authors submit second revised manuscripts – 23 May 2022.
- Language editing of manuscripts – May–June and August 2022.
- Lay-out of the journal at University of Tartu Press – end of October 2022.
- Publication of journal – 1 November 2022.
The next special issue of the journal invites articles in the field of inclusive education. It is due to be published 1st May 2023.
